TAP Learning Journeys

We organize expert missions of AIESEC Alumni in cooperation with NGO's to support and set up new social ventures and projects in development countries. The aim is to empower successful projects, start sustainable new projects and to set up a new partnership in the visited country.

Learning Journey to Kenya March 7-15 2010

We started the project in December 2009 resulting in a learning journey in March 2010. Our team consisted of 2 telecom marketing specialists from KPN & Vodafone, 1 strategy consultant from BCG, 2 social media experts from the 1% club and a social entrepreneur specialized in social partnerships from BEHOLD. With this expertise on board our team was well equipped to support the Hivos STAR programme with exploring private sector partnerships, supporting a pilot project LVCT with defining a communication strategy and exploring the online volunteering and social media possibilities.

Next to valuable advice our involvement resulted in various partnerships with Accenture, Safaricom, TNO, computer hardware via Close the Gap and cooperation with young social media specialist from the I-lab and 1% Club. For more info see www.starprogramme.org.

Fact Finding Mission to Tanzania June 2-12 2009

This was our first involvement starting January 2009 and resulting in a learning journey in June 2010. With a team of 10 AIESEC Alumni from various companies (SAB Miller, Berenschot, Sara Lee, FMO, Philips, Atos Origin, etc.) we were able to provide the United Nations Volunteers (www.unv.org) with the company perspective on partnerships with the United Nations.

During our mission we worked on the private sector partnership strategy of the UNV. We also introduced them to best practices of private sector initiatives contributing to the MDGs like Rabobank (farmers cooperation’s & micro credit), Tanga Fresh Limited (dairy farming), SAB Miller (local barley sourcing from small farmers), D.light Design (rural solar energy), Philips (healthcare), etc. By speaking to representatives from these companies, their non-profit partners, their suppliers and customers, we learned how business can be sustainable and profitable at the same time.

The team also organized a MDG Dragons' Den, in cooperation with AIESEC Tanzania which provided the platform to inspire local young professionals and captains of industry to take their responsibilities. On top of that, the team made movies of the companies visited in order to inspire other companies to contribute to the MDGs by doing business in developing countries.
